Jack Dunlop spent his early years in the Ayrshire (Scotland) farming community of south-west Scotland, attending Ballantrae Primary School and Girvan Academy.
Thereafter, Jack attended and graduated from Strathclyde University, Glasgow (Scotland) with BSc (Honours) (1977) and PhD (1980) degrees in Chemistry. He was later awarded Chartered Chemist (CChem) and Member (MRSC) status by the Royal Society of Chemistry
Between 1980 and 1998 Jack worked for Exxon Chemicals, Dow Chemical and Lubrizol Corporation in various technical, sales, marketing and business management roles.
During this corporate phase of his career Jack was involved in various speciality chemicals businesses serving diverse markets such as oil and gas, automotive, construction, coatings and chemical industries. Strategic planning, new product development and marketing within a business development environment were central themes to this career experience.
Jack established JD Horizons in 1999 as a specialist technology and marketing channel for performance chemicals in the oil industry. In subsequent years the company became widely recognised as a significant player in the development, supply and marketing of proprietary chemicals for flow assurance applications, and related business services in the worldwide oilfield chemicals market. JD Horizons was acquired by Croda International, a major UK based speciality chemicals company, in August 2014.
A new company, JD Vistas Limited, was incorporated in 2014 to serve specialist consulting and business services activities retained by Jack post sale of JD Horizons.
In 2007 Jack was elected to the Board of Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise and remains involved with this local business support organization.
Jack lives in the picturesque and affluent village of Alderley Edge, best known in recent times for it’s professional footballer community, in rural Cheshire.
